Everyone’s an individual; we do things for our own reasons and have our own personal goals and aspirations.
As such, when trying to motivate or incentivise a department, team or entire organisation, it’s much more effective to use a strategy that appeals to everyone on an individual basis, rather than a blanket reward that may only be attractive to a few employees.
One example of why generic incentives can be less effective is offering an additional day of annual leave. If you run a holiday scheme whereby some employees have more annual leave than others, then the incentive is may be less appealing to part of your workforce.
Offering something tangible and directly beneficial to an individual makes a reward that bit more exciting and personal.
If you want to get the best from each and every employee, then you need to know what drives them. Once a brand understands what motivates employees to give that little bit extra, it can start to really utilise initiatives to get the most from the skills, creativity and expertise of its employees.
