Are you paid ‘what you’re worth’? – survey results

HR software provider CIPHR recently polled 1,005 UK workers to find out more about how people perceive their salary and when they last asked for (and received) a pay rise.

Key findings:

  • Only 41% of employees think they’re being paid ‘what they are worth’ by their employer
  • 38% of employees haven’t had a pay rise in over a year
  • 43% of employees haven’t requested a pay rise in over a year
  • Non-management staff are among the most likely (48%) to think they’re underpaid and the least likely (33%) to have had a pay rise within the last six months

CIPHR polled 1,005 UK adults on 23 September 2021 as part of a wider survey on the UK’s gender pay gap. 12% of survey respondents work in small companies with 26-50 employees, 28% work in medium-sized companies with 51-250 employees, 22% work in large companies with 251-1,000 employees, 15% work in organisations with 1,001-5,000 employees, and 23% work in enterprises with over 5,001 employees.

The data does not include people who answered ‘prefer not to say’ to one or more question. All statistics have been rounded to the nearest integer or one decimal place. Totals may not sum due to rounding.
